MSD of Boone Township Breaks Ground on New 28,000-Square-Foot Fieldhouse Addition
HEBRON, IN – After several years of careful planning, the MSD of Boone Township officially broke ground today on a new 28,000-square-foot fieldhouse addition at Hebron High School. Construction is set to kick off during spring break, with the district aiming to open the doors to students and the public by March 2027. The new facility will be built on the north side of the existing high school gym, featuring a brick-and-concrete exterior designed to blend in with the current building. This setup also adds another entrance right next to the main parking lot, making it much easier for families and fans to enter and exit during busy game nights.
Inside, the fieldhouse is designed to be a workhorse for the district. It will house two full basketball courts with durable synthetic flooring, a dedicated room for the wrestling program, two new locker rooms, and public restrooms. This additional space is about more than just new courts; it’s a way to protect the school’s existing facilities. By moving daily PE classes, school sports, and community events into the new addition, the district can finally take some of the pressure off the main high school gym, which has been in constant, heavy use for the last 20 years.
One of the district's biggest priorities was making sure this project did not hit local homeowners in the wallet. While many school districts across Indiana have kept their tax rates the same, the MSD of Boone Township has worked to provide actual tax relief, cutting the debt service tax rate by 43 cents since 2021. This means the community is getting a major facility upgrade without any additional tax burden. The goal was to build a structure tough enough to withstand decades of use while remaining fiscally responsible to the people who live here.
“Our students and the Hebron community deserve the same quality of facilities that you see in much larger districts, and this project is a direct investment in the people who make this town great,” said Dr. Jeff Brooks, Superintendent of the MSD of Boone Township. Hebron schools are the heart of our community activities, especially during the winter months. By being fiscally responsible with our budget and focusing on durable, long-lasting construction, we are able to give our kids a top-tier space they can be proud of for a long time to come.”
